Although it would appear to be a single area, there are many regulations and standards related to these products:
PANIC BARS: EN1125
EMERGENCY DEVICES: EN179
MECHANICAL LOCKS: EN12209
MULTI-PURPOSE LOCKS: prEN15685
ELECTROMECHANICAL LOCKS: EN14846
MECHANICAL CYLINDERS: EN1303
MECHATRONIC CYLINDERS: EN15684
DOOR CLOSERS: EN 1154
SUITABILITY ON FIRE/SMOKE DOORS
For the application on fire doors, the reference character in the normative (EN) classification of the accessory is grade 4 (except in the classification of mechatronic cylinders which is grade 3) i.e:
Grade 0: not suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control characteristics Grade A: suitable for use on doors with smoke control resistance characteristics Grade B: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control characteristics EN12209:2016 (to date not harmonised with CPR), Grade N was also introduced, i.e. “suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control characteristics based on fire tests where the lock does not contribute to the holding the door in the closed position”.
EN12209 (harmonised CPR) includes only two grades:
Grade 0: not suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control characteristics Grade 1: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features
The following grades apply only to EN14846:2008:
Grade 0: not suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features Grade A: suitable for use on doors with smoke control resistance features Grade B: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features up to EI15 Grade C: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features up to EI30 Grade D: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features up to EI60 Grade E: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features up to EI90 Grade F: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and/or smoke control features up to EI120 or higher
Only for EN1154 the following grades apply: suitable for use on fire/smoke doors -> 0 or 1
LOCKS, IN-DEPTH EXAMINATION OF THIRD AND FOURTH DIGIT
As seen above, building components can be defined as suitable for use on fire/smoke doors. This is done by testing according to EN1634-1 or EN1634-2. Many lock and cylinder manufacturers come to us to carry out tests of their products, which are then used as evidence for the notified body for CE marking of construction components, in order to obtain the fourth digit.
LOCKS, CYLINDERS, DOOR CLOSERS IN FIRE DOORS, CAN THEY BE CHANGED?
Construction components can, in certain cases, be subject to EXAP. This is also a case for which manufacturers turn to us, to obtain evidence for use in an EXAP, to perhaps allow one of their door manufacturer customers to replace tested components with others. For more information, go to the EXAP section by clicking here (EXAP LINK IN INGLESE DA AGGIUNGERE)
Building components can have their own HPS – Hardware Performance Sheet.
HOTELS: DOOR CLOSERS AND ‘PANIC’ LOCKS ON FIRE DOORS
In relation to door closers, Ministerial Decree 10/03/1998 in Annex III (“Measures relating to exit routes in the event of fire”), Paragraph 3.9 (“Doors installed along exit routes”) states that: “All fire-resistant doors shall be equipped with a self-closing device.”
In relation to locks, Ministerial Decree 09/04/1994 in Annex II (“Technical fire prevention rules for the construction and operation of tourist accommodation activities”), TITLE II PROVISIONS RELATED TO ACCOMMODATION ACTIVITIES WITH CAPACITY OVER 25 BEDS, states in Paragraph 7.3 “Exit route system” that: The doors of the guest rooms must be equipped with locks with instant manual release of the bolts from the inside, in order to facilitate exit in the event of danger.
THE CONTRIBUTION OF CHEMOLLI FIRE
Many door manufactures come to us for making tests for their products, finalized to be used as evidences for the certified body for CE marking, in order to obtain the fourfh digit.
We can carry out fire tests as follows:
activities for customers, where in accordance with the parties we insert products of the manufacturer of accessories; dedicated activities, where we arrange everything , even the doors on which to mount accessories. It goes without saying that the second type of activity, on the one hand guarantees results, time and ownership of evidence, on the other hand has higher costs.
We can also find evidence from our extensive database, possibly agreeing to allow the use of the same for marking or EXAP. In the case of evidence in our possession, the agreement is made directly with us. In the case of evidence from customers, we check whether there is a willingness to agree with the relevant guarantees.
On the subject of EXAP we can prepare the request to the laboratories.
On the subject of HPS, we can provide the drafting.
The fire tests can be according to EN1634-1 or EN1634-2, see the TESTING section of our website for specific insights.
